Rudraksha Original Certificate — Lab Authentication Process
Rudraksha Original Certificate — Authentication Process
Every rudraksha sold on Soultheory above ₹999 ships with a lab authentication certificate confirming the bead is genuine Elaeocarpus ganitrus from Nepal or Indonesia, not a substituted seed or composite imitation. This page explains what the certificate proves, the standards we follow, and how to verify your bead is genuine.
What our certificate confirms
- Species verification: the bead is genuine Elaeocarpus ganitrus, the only true rudraksha species
- Origin: Nepali (premium, larger, deeper grooves) or Indonesian Java (smaller, also genuine, more affordable)
- Mukhi count: the number of natural vertical lines (1–14, 21 mukhi rare) is verified, not assumed from appearance
- No artificial tampering: no carved lines, no dye, no composite filler
- Size and weight: measured in millimetres for transparent pricing
Standards we reference
- Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) guidelines for natural product authentication — see bis.gov.in
- Indian Gemological Institute protocols for natural seed and gemstone identification
- Nepali rudraksha trade conventions — sourcing chain documented from Nepal grading to India shipping
How to verify your certified rudraksha at home
- Count the lines carefully. Real lines run from top hole to bottom hole and look organic, not etched.
- Surface texture. Real rudraksha has tiny pitted, knot-like ridges; fakes look smooth and uniform.
- Water test. Drop in clean water at room temperature — real rudraksha sinks slowly because of natural density. (Note: fakes can be weighted to sink — use alongside other checks.)
- Boil test (only for unenergized older beads). A real rudraksha withstands several minutes of boiling without colour bleeding. Skip this for any bead you wear religiously.
- Cross-check the certificate against our records — every certificate has a unique reference number. Email editorial@soultheory.in for verification.
What we do NOT certify
Our certificate is a natural product authentication — it confirms the bead is genuine Elaeocarpus ganitrus with the stated mukhi count and origin. It does not certify:
- Specific astrological or spiritual outcomes (these vary by individual practice)
- Medicinal or healing properties (we never make such claims)
- Provenance from a specific tree or location beyond country (Nepal vs Java)

Frequently asked
How do I get the original certificate for my rudraksha?
Every rudraksha order above ₹999 ships with the lab authentication certificate. For older orders, contact editorial@soultheory.in with your order number.
Is BIS hallmarking applicable to rudraksha?
BIS hallmarking is for precious metals — not natural seeds. We reference BIS guidelines for natural product authentication and use independent gem labs for the bead-specific certification.
What if my bead size doesn\'t match the certificate?
Beads have natural variation. The certificate states size in millimetres with a tolerance. If your bead is more than 1mm outside the stated range, contact us for replacement.
Read our editorial process and sources we cite. We treat certification as a transparent verification — not a guarantee of spiritual outcomes.
